After owning 7 x 205's in my youth I am starting to save and search for a 205 to keep now I am 37.
I now live over in Germany there is a lack of GTI's compared to the UK and as most motor searches cover Europe in full I have stumbled upon the real 205 Rallye version.

I was wondering if anyone has any experience in these cars and what kind of comparison they are in terms of performance/fun factor they are compared to the GTI version. I expect the usual noise and lack of toys etc.

Here is one car I have seen

The 205 Rallye was basically a stripped out lightened 205 1.6GTi with a tuned 1.3 TU engine on twin Webers.
I`ve never driven a 205 Rallye but I expect it's an absolute screamer? it may have less BHP`s than a GTi but I bet its fun to drive.
The ad` says it's done 3,500kms,are you sure that's genuine from new? one or two of the images makes me think its been modified from standard.
Check its history etc etc as that is a lot of money to pay for a 25 year old 205.If it is genuine that car is a one off.

Thanks for the reply, There are a few in Europe and yes on a closer look your comments are valid.

It's a toss-up between a GTI and a Rallye. GTI for the looks and small comforts or rallye for a screamer!

The problem with 205GTi`s,particularly in the UK,is finding one that has not been modified, messed with or just simply thrashed and abused.Finding an immaculate unmolested GTi is becoming difficult. When you do find one it will be expensive,I`ve seen mint ones going for £12K -£15K and very tidy original ones £5K - £10K.

I have never driven a Euro spec 205 Rallye but own a 205 1.6 gti and have owned S1 106 rallye's with the fuel injected 1.3 TU engine rather than the carb setup in the 205's. I would say the 1.3 engine has the edge over the xu gti engines in character and if you were after a car to really push hard the Rallye would probably be more rewarding? Not that the 205 gti lack's driver involvement as you know! I love the look of the Euro Rallye's!
