I've just picked up a 98 406 3.0 V6.

So far I'm loving it, the ride comfort is superb, the handling is typically excellent and the engine is a peach.

I do have an issue with the positive battery terminal though....

It's got a screw arrangement where you tighten a knob on top of it and this tightens 'fingers' around the battery post.

The problem is that most of the fingers have broken off so the terminal isn't very secure any more.

I called Peugeout and they told me the part was discontinued.

Does anyone have any idea where I can get one from?

I can see on ebay that the negative terminal version is available but that's different from the positive version as the posts are different sizes.

Here's what the negative version looks like for reference, the one I need is the same but is designed for the positive battery post which is a slightly different size....

The only other option is to chop off the old terminal but I'd rather not if the correct parts are out there...

From what I can see, the part you require is 561549 "BATTERY PLIERS POSITIF"

A quick google sees this guy selling off old stock, you may be lucky as it looks like he has only one left.

Dean Hunter http://www.peugeotparts.co.uk/ will have one.
OR? you could use the later type lead assembly (56442.Q4)and make it fit.

You can buy normal terminals with an upright stud that the existing cable will bolt onto without cutting anything.

As luck would have it I already have one of those in my box of electrical bits!

The terminal on the car has one of the cables actually crimped to it so I will have to chop that off and drill a hole in it to fasten it to the new one.
