I must say I have been impressed with how well the Megane 250 Cup has held its value in recent years. Now 5 years old and only just starting to dip below £10K, not bad at all for something that retailed at £22.5k basic price....not many French cars are worth more than 40% after 5 years...

Anyway, do people think they will continue to hold their value? I would be very tempted to take the plunge next year to buy one as a "toy" as I have always loved these cars (and the R26 F1 for that matter) but as someone who normally buys cheap cars near the bottom of their depreciation curve am slightly concerned as to whether values will start to slide.

I guess the reasonably strong prices of the 3 year older Megane R26 F1 (in relation to other Megane 225s), which has been hovering around the £6-7K mark for a year or two now suggest they will still be worth reasonable money after a few years?

I think you can only fit so many cars into a price bracket, the dealers seem to have had no idea how to price them for a long time preferring to verge on the side of silly. Even trade in values seem on one hand good but also, none of them seem to have a clue what to offer on trade in or what they'll sell for so in the confusion I think the prices have been held up.

Lots of the older mk2's are about in various guise too and really seem to be just lasting, they have a few 'issues' but beyond that they seem to just keep going and going so hold a certain price and that bumps the mk3's up at the bottom end. I can't say I've heard of many just entirely breaking down (or at least those owned by enthusiasts).

AAaaaand, they're just good cars. Relatively cheap to run for the performance they offer, biggest bill I've had was £500 for track rods and a replacement perfo hub (could have sorted that cheaper as well).

Did you own a 230 or a 250? Both are on my radar big style...mulling over buying a second car for fun, in the £7-£10K bracket but not sure which of them I would go with. What "issues" do you get with the Mk2s?

I've got a 250, the mk2's the main issue was always the windows regulator as the door design allows water in. A lot have either probably had it fixed by now though.

To counter the mk3s have weaker ball joints in the perfo hubs so....

Swings and roundabout.

The mk3s remap a lot better smile

Window reg went on my MK3 too, so not entirely fixed! But that said, the car was sat for 4 months waiting for replacement parts after I was crashed into on a roundabout, so not usual circumstances.

Had my 250 from new since September 2010. No real issues to speak of, the dash screen failed within the first couple of months (I've never heard of anyone having that problem). The Recaro rattled a bit, but was fixed under warrantee.

I had some water in the driver footwell a couple of weeks back, turned out a leaf had blocked the drain during the horrendous rain we had and cause the water to overflow. Sorted now. I've just had another issue with water coming into the boot switch somehow, but it seemed dry this morning so will keen an eye on it. It used to be garaged but is parked outside these days.

The car is on just under 40k and I'm doing Cardiff to Bristol (80 miles) about twice a week with it at the moment. Still feels great and drives brilliantly. I wouldn't mind getting something else just for a bit of a change, but honestly nothing else appeals to me at the moment so looks like I'll be sticking with it for a while.

For 10k you can't go wrong, it's a lot of car for that money.

I love these cars, I'm looking to change cars next year and I have a hankering for a hot hatch. Also tempted by a pretty different but also brilliant Z4M
