106 Rallye S1 1.3 8V
Discussion
Hi All,
I have just bought a 106 Rallye S1 1.3 8V.
YAY!
It's a bit of a beater, but it has a lot of potential.
YAY!
The first thing that I need to address is a leaky head gasket; I'll need to get it replaced/head skimmed to stop it from happening again soon. In addition, can't see any evidence in the paperwork of cambelt/water pump replacement etc. so will need to get this addressed.
OH!
How much do you think this might cost? I'll need to get a garage to undertake all works as I am devoid of any engineering skills at all.

When you say leaky head gasket I expect you mean oil leak around timing cover area? very common on the Peugeot/Citroen TU engine.
That Peugeot engine is probably the easiest in the business to replace a head gasket. You have to disconnect the cam belt when removing the head,so head gasket/cam belt change is all one job.
My advice is find yourself a small Peugeot/Citroen independent,it will be a doddle of a job to them.
They will also use O/E parts.I would be surprised if the head needs skimming but its important to fit the latest Peugeot head gasket.
When changing a cam belt its advisable to replace the tensioner and water pump as well. Also a set of head bolts will be required when changing the gasket, fresh anti freeze of course.
I would budget £125 parts £200-£250 labour.
