I am considering a DS3 or 4 & am after a bit of advice from the masses out there.

Is there anything I should be aware of particular to these cars?

On the DS3 diesels some are 90 & some 110hp, is the difference a simple map change?

Any other buying advice would be greatly appreciated.

My DS3 120VTi is 4½ years old; one of the best cars I've ever had.

Apart from a few trim rattles, common to early cars & fixed under warranty with modified parts, the only failure I've had was broken exhaust bracket; that's a common fault, again fixed under warranty by fitting a new exhaust, although I believe it's an easy welding job.

I like the DS3, but I'd want a petrol. Unless you're doing mega miles you really don't need the diesel.

Claudia,

I know what you mean alas there are other forces at play.

Mrs has a 3 series co-car, I have a heavily modified 328 track car, so this HAS to be a cheap daily runabout mainly to keep her insurance no claims alive & for me to use in winter.

Based on that, zero road tax, not much performance difference between 110d & 1.6 (unless you go to top of performance tree) 60mpg real world against 40mpg real world, I am sorry but there is no contest.

The mileage differential costs on a 2 year old car diesel v petrol are virtually negligible too, so I don't need to do mega miles to make it worthwhile.

Thanks VERY much for the input everyone, and keep it coming, real world owner reviews/opinions more than welcome.

Mrs Saleen has the 90bhp diesel, zero road tax as the car has s/s tech and without the road tax is £20. Over the almost 18months of ownership there has been no problems (apart from the exhaust bracket) average mpg for her 70mile round trip commute (mostly dual) through the summer was 60-65mpg but has dropped to 55-60mpg through the winter.
