Renault Clio 2004 Brake and tail light issue

Hi Everyone,

I was following Mrs Hythan to our home the other day and noticed that her offside tail light wasn't working. Her brake lights however, were fine.

So I purchased a new bulb (Offset pin, double filament) and went ahead and swapped it over.

This is where I'm stuck.

Once I had changed the bulb, the tail light is working, but the brake light has stopped working.

So to clarify, existing problem was tail light not working, brake light fine. After new bulb installed, tail light working, brake light NOT working.

So I wondered if anyone had any ideas as to what to test/try next? I haven't checked the fuses yet, nor have I checked/replaced, brake light switch. I will do so tomorrow afternoon. Although I don't see how it can be the fuse can it?

Nearside tail light, and brake light are working as they should.

Any advice appreciated.

Try checking the new bulb on a battery,it could be faulty.

I'd start by swapping bulbs left to right at the back of the car and see what happens.

Thanks guys, traced the problem to crap connection at the socket that plugs directly into the rear cluster.

Scratched them, bent them back up again gently to improve connection and hey presto, all working.

Hopefully will last for a while.
