Need help setting the points and ignition timing on a 602cc Dyane6, inherited this as "help" was offered and then the guy scarpered before I got a chance to snap photo's of how it went and mark reference points.

Anyone know how and where I should be looking?

Set a bulb up on the lead going to the points box from the coil, there is a hole in the ns web of the crankcase for a 5mm drill to go through into the flywheel. Set the points gap to 0.4mm then turn the points box until the bulb lights up(ignition on). Scribe a line along the top of the points box, retract pin and turn crank one full turn ,reinsert pin and move points box until light comes back on. Scribe another line, move points box to be in between the two marks. If you hear detonation under full load move points box anticlockwise 2mm.

Great, now, the bulb should be on the wire going to the condenser I presume?

There are two wires going to the points box, one to the condenser, and a brown wire that I have no idea of, but it does have a ring terminal on it so I assume it could be a separate earth?

Sorry to seem so vague, but this is a long way off the old distributer type set ups I have been used to.

There should be one wire from the negative terminal on the coil to the spade connector on the points box, where it joins the condenser . You can connect the bulb to this wire and to earth.
