Does anyone know how many RPMs the C1/107/Aygo 1.0 petrol is doing at 70mph in fifth gear? Really like the look of these cars, but I'm wondering whether it would feel out of its depth on the motorway like my current car does.

Not much help but my C1 (diesel) sits at ~2.2k at 70mph in 5th.

My OH has a petrol Aygo and it's absolutely fine at 70mph in 5th (I normally sit at 80mph on my private test track), moreso than my diesel which is a poor engine in comparison.

Wife has a 107

Approx 3000 at 70

I only checked as a possible engine swap for a classic mini project!

Thanks for the responses! Much appreciated! Was worried I wouldn't get any replies when it sprung to mind that many of these cars weren't fitted with rev counters!

The diesel ones are quite hard to come by, but I must admit I love the sound of the three-cylinder petrol! Don't know about the real world figures, but the claimed MPG between the two is pretty close, so I'd probably be more inclined to look at a petrol myself. Though by the sounds of both comments, the diesel should deliver better fuel economy on the motorway.

My current car (Corsa 1.2) is screaming at 4000rpm@80mph in fifth, so I just sit at 60mph being overtaken by everything to try and save fuel. Even then it's revving at 3000rpm! The Polo 1.2 I ran before it wasn't much better. The same goes for the Saxo 1.1 I was given as a courtesy car recently. These are the kind of cars that sky-high insurance is limiting me to, but they feel well out of their depth past 60mph.

3000rpm@70mph doesn't sound too bad, but it wouldn't kill them to have given these cars a six-speeder.

I reckon that engine would shift a Mini along rather nicely!

Thanks again for the responses!

No problem.

With regard to MPG my OH gets approximately 400 miles to a tank in her petrol Aygo (mainly town driving) whilst I get a little over 500 miles in my Citroen C1 diesel (mainly rural driving) but I much prefer the petrol engine, it has far more life to it and gives a nice sound as you say.

Either way, they're both great on fuel and the pocket in general.

Is the diesel better for overtaking on the motorway?

I love the look of the 107 Sport XS with the red stripes, rear spoiler, twin pipes, alloys, etc. I think that version's only available as a petrol anyway, but I can't seem to find a good one for less than £3k!

Even the petrol one's meant to do 60mpg if driven carefully, and £20 for a year's road tax is much better than the £180 I'm paying now!

dont he put off by the 3000rpm at 70mph they love to rev! drive these regular and 65mph in 2nd, 90mph in 3rd is posible. if your really trying 115-120mph is possible.

there very very reliable, nothing really breaks or wears out etc. just look out for water leaks (boot and rear light seals) and leaky water pumps

To carry on what Rob said, clutches aswell. For whatever reason they seem to give up fairly quickly. I've changed some 25-30k milers but mostly around the 50k mark. I'd also recommend genuine replacements aswell, as i've only recently had to change a friends non-gen clutch after 10 months because the release bearing exploded. Otherwise great little cars!

As for car recommendations, a friend of mine has a 1.4 diesel C2 and it's fantastic. More than happy at motorway speeds and great MPG. Teesside to Brands hatch and back last year, fully laden with camping gear, beer and three slightly rotund gentlemen on the same tank, with some spare aswell. Costs him next to nothing in tax or insurance to boot!

Sorry the delayed reply!

Yes, the diesel is a little better for overtaking on the motorway but for general driving (and overtaking grannies doing 40 in a 60) I'd recommend the petrol. I love my C1 diesel but I'm adamant that the petrol is a better overall car (although I did push 78 MPG on my last tank...)
