So changed the tyres yesterday - the fitter shows me the CV boot is leaking big time so well on the way out.

Is this an MOT failure?

If so, as MOT is imminent I will need to get it sorted - any one know how much parts and labour would be (so Kwik-Fit don't try and rip me off!!)?

TIA

Yep it is a failure the wording is something like split/deteriorated so much that it is no longer stopping the ingress of dirt.

Don't take it to Kwik Fit. Time is of the essence if it's just started leaking as the joint is probably still ok and you can just have the boot replaced. This will be much cheaper the a whole joint/shaft.

To add - don't drive it any more than necessary! the more you drive it the more grease will fly out which will wreck the joint and cover your wheel/suspension/everything else with stty dirty moly grease.

I had this but not on the same type of car.
the grease came out to such an extent that it coated all around the drivers side wheel and also onto that brake disc pads and caliper. the larger end of the boot had come away (the boot hadnt split but the clip had come off) only noticed something was amiss on a heavy brake from 90 when the car pulled badly to the left!

get it sorted asap. split boots are an MOT failure.

A common fault sadly.
