Morning folks.

Hope someone may be able to give me some pointers.

Driving along the M6 last night in a Peugeot 206. No warnings, just complete loss of power. Coasted into the hard shoulder. Tried turning the car over, nothing other than a whirring sound and a big fk you from the engine!

AA called. Said timing belt gone. Didn't even pop the bonnet. £200 odd quid later and the car is dumped at home.

Go out to it this morning, have a peak in the engine bay and no damage and the belt I can see is intact.

So over to you good folk. Any ideas please?

Sounds like a timing belt, why not call a mobile mechanic to come and have a look.

The belt you can see isn't the cambelt I'm afraid. That hides under a cover and sounds like it has probably snapped frown

Seems like the head gasket has gone which has caused loss of compression.

No overheating though, which I would have expected.

Good news!

Still, it lost so much compression all at once that it wouldn't start and just cut out? Did the HG just split or something?

Good question.

No idea until the mechanic takes the whole thing apart.

Depending on the quote, may just scrap it.
