205 GTi 1.9`s had either Michelin or Pirelli 185 55 15 tyres on standard Peugeot wheels when new. Most owners though replaced them(when worn out)with 195 55 15 or 195 50 15.

If you go for 195/50/15 then the Toyo T1R is a great tyre, we use them on autotests and sprints in the roadgoing class on my 1.6 Gti and for the money ( just £149 for 4 on ebay ) I think they are fantastic. But my next set for my Gti will be Michelin Pilot exalto PE2 in 195/50/15 and apparently these are one of the best and Michelin is original equipment on a 205 Gti for authenticity. About £250 per set, but I am going to give them a try. 185/50/15 gives a much more limited choice but is original size Ithink.

I agree, you can find 195`s in lots of makes all over the place, that`s why GTi owners go for them.185`s are few and far between so the most expensive.

My (original) spare has a Pirelli P500 on it, from 1988. 185/55/R15.

I would not recommend them. Or indeed anything in the P-range from Pirelli, unless that next part is "Zero".

Since I've owned the car I've run it on 195/50/15s, and found my favourites to be Falken ZE912s. The ZE914 has since replaced them, and judging by how good they are on my Lotus, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them either.

185/55's are really expensive.

Most of us roll on 195/50's

I've got a set of TR-1's and GSD3's, my favourite.
