So, the problem began after i serviced the car, filters, oil and glow plug.
After fuel filter change i bled the system, however the next day it would take ages to start on the starter motor, i noticed bubbles in the pipe from the filter housing to the fuel punp, went to a garage and they bled the system and did a leak check but its still the same and its doing my head in!!! please help...

There is only two things that will prevent an old 306D from starting on the button, glow plugs not working properly or air in the system,so go back through your work?? You say glow pluG,did you change all four? also are you getting full voltage to them when the orange light is on? I bet the problem lies in the fuel filter? something is miss placed?rubber seal not right? and its dragging in air when parked up.

There's an O-ring on the lid of the filter housing. Chances are it's not seated correctly and drawing air.

thanks for the help, the glow plugs are fine because when its sat it starts on the button, but runs for a couple of seconds, like its using up fuel left in the pump then it cuts out and starting take alot of cranking, however i noticed that when i parked the car in a dry garage it got a little better, but i think i will check the fuel filter, uni-part may have given me a wrong filter as i forgot to check the part numbers when i replaced them.
Is there a possibility that there is air trapped in the injectors?

Your description all points to the fuel filter?

I bet its one of these? plastic top held down with four allen screws.I hope you haven't cracked the top.
Also check the filter drain tap to see if its leaking and emptying the bowl?

Yes thats the filter, i have bled the system today with no improvement.
I checked the filter housing and all seems fine i never over tightened the bolts as i have a fear of cracking the plastic cover and housing.

Leak off pipes? Could've disturbed them when changing glow plugs.

Usually leaking on the old XUD lumps by now.

If it was ok before you worked on it i would change the fuel filter back for the original.Sometimes the primer bulbs fail.If you prime it before you start it is it ok?
