Intermittent wiper action, stopping half through the wipe or not even responding at all. Collapsed bearing sir, I was reliably informed by a national high street do it all garage, that will require a complete new assembly and £480 of your hard earned wedge. Damn.... Felt more like an intermittent electrical problem to me... mechanically it seemed fine. So removed the wiper mechanism and was amazed at all the crap in the bulk head. We had a constant power to the connector so the issue wasn't at the steering column or stalk. Removed the cover from the motor and the little black box, absolutely covered in gunk, water and rust! All cleaned out, wire brushed the magnets, emery cothed the copper connectors & MEK'd everything, re-siliconised the joints and hey presto, Wipers now work again. Could've bought a replacement part off of E-bay for £30 quid but feel hugely satisfied to have fixed an old part whilst giving it some further life. I'm not really Ed China, but my engineering manager is, I can fully understand why the majority of people don't attempt this kind of thing.

There's nothing better than fixing something on a motor which has been quoted at gazillion pounds to fix it for the price of a washer or cable tie in 5 minutes.

Especially when it comes down to Renault electrics as you automatically think remortgage time.
I did the same myself with the sunroof on a Renault I owned as I was quoted the national debt for the complete unit only to fix it for £3.

But saying that the car still ended up as scrap as the next day something else electrical decided not to work again which was quite commonplace I found with Renault.

careful doing the belt on the vvt 1.6, with the dephaser camshaft pulley!
just make sure you mark it up before taking the belt off,or lock up the pulleys.
