My Berlingo 1.9 diesel broke down, I found a heavy duty wire on the alternator had snapped, it`s a positive feed. I suspect this has shorted out something in the fuel electrics system as the car will not start, I will look and see if I get fuel at the fuel reservoir under the bonnet with the ignition on. I think this will test the tank pump. The battery is on charge at the moment as it went flat trying to start it and then getting towed home in the dark. Any help is most appreciated.
Steve.

It looks simple? (but is it?)the broken wire may have blown a fuse? check the under bonnet HD ones, should be in a small box by the battery. Also check the main fuse box inside the car.
Fix the alternator wire, charge the battery.I hope its that simple.

I`ve made a start but I suspect it`s the fuel pump shut off valve, when the batter has enough juice in it, I`ll see if I get fuel flow at an injector.

If you need to change the shut off solonoid the easiest way is to cut the top off the armour plating carefully with a slitting disc this will give enough access to replace it.

I`ve removed an injector pipe and cranked the engine, I`m not getting fuel, so I`m suspecting the shut off valve. is there any way that i can check for sure the valve has failed ?

If you have fuel at the pump but not at the injector the most common failure is the shut off solonoid, not too bad to do if you are careful with the cutting disc.

An update from the mechanic, the car has blown the BSI unit, no lights, wipers etc, got a BSI unit on the way so hopefully this will sort it.

I had a feeling that broken wire would blow more than a fuse.

You were spot on, it`s a serious inconvenience, i travel 100 miles a day for work and I need it to help move my daughter into her new home. I hope to get it back soon as it`s a great workhorse.

Did you get it sorted?.... Did your mechanic try to reset the BSI and or try to access via Lexia?
