Evening Chaps,

my 206 just failed the MOT due to poor handbrake effort. Any way you can adjust the cables as i thought they are self adjusting? Rear discs are in reasonable shape and 1/4 of the pad left. Any ideas would be warmly welcomed.

Many Thanks

Are the levers on the calipers returning to their stops,if not the internal mechanism doesn't adjust the piston out as the pads wear and you end up with poor effort.
Also check the pads are free in the calipers.

I`m pretty sure they are the same Bendix rear brakes that Peugeot fitted to 205GTi,30616v etc for years.
Assuming that the calipers, pads and cables are free and the discs are in good condition. Its very common for the inside of the discs to become corroded and inefficient?? slacken off the cable adjuster (by the lever under the plastic cover)pump the foot brake like mad with the engine running, this will ensure the calipers have self adjusted. Then tighten up the cable adjuster.(not too much!)

Well just to report back one of the rear calipers was completely FUBAR so that was the problem. Thanks for your help.
