R5 GT Turbo in Evo
Discussion
Has anyone seen the feature article about the R5 GT Turbo in this month's Evo magazine? I found myself reading it top to toe which is somewhat unusual these days. A wonderful shot on 3 wheels with Dickie Meaden at the helm. They don't make 'em like that any more....as the article pointed out, with a light comparison to the current Clio 200 Turbo.
Someone has a lovely looking original car at hand - and it wasn't mine unfortunately!

nothing wrong with mine, just hibernating for the winter! there can't be many standard, great condition cars around these days. I have a Fiat 500 Abarth as a town car and, safety issues aside, you do wonder how that represents progress. 3 door hatch, 1.4 turbo pocket rocket.....20years apart. The renault is much more of a hoot on a spirited drive simply because the level of engagement is higher - the whooshing of the exhaust gas, the non ABS brakes etc...
Hi Folks,
There's another being got ready to hit the road once more.

That's wonderful to see. Good luck with it. A little inspiration, perhaps? ->

Great pocket rockets. I had 3 in the mid 90's an E reg electric blue which I repaired after an engine bay fire, an F reg tungsten car which turned out to have a chequered history, and finally a G reg Raider, which I would probably have kept for ever had some twonk not pulled out in front of me without looking in a Volvo!
One of my fondest memories was having a 'spirited' drive down a country lane, being persued by a mk2 golf 16v. He came a cropper at a tight bend and went agricultural poor guy! My mate had the fiesta RS turbo, and even that had no answer to the 5 below 100mph!
I've been quietly on the search for a nice original car ever since and have looked at quite a few 'immaculate original cars'!!
These 5's we're falling apart 20 years ago, so you've got to be lucky to find a good one now! I'm a bit put off by the lack of parts availability too. It seems renault isn't overly bothered about keeping some of it's older and best cars on the road which is a shame. The front bumpers only have to look at a kerb before cracking and falling to bits and now they are dis-continued!
The clio Williams have gone the same way too, all fell apart or got pimped, thrashed and crashed!!
If anyone wants to sell a properly nice (un-molested 5 gt) please let me know
