Hello all,
Having enjoyed a longish drive in an mate's 407 I'm considering one as my next work hackabout.
The motorway ride was great and the driving position seemed to work well for my Simian frame.
What should I be looking for? I 'normally' buy at 5 years/80k.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

don't buy a 1.6hdi, look at ebay type in 407 breaking and you will find as nearly many in the breakers as there are for sale in the auctions.
1.6 has hideous turbo problems, 2.0 rhr type is better ,though suffer flywheel problems {£600 to fix}

1.6 Hdi engine can be problematic at 80K plus. Oil problems caused by blocked strainer on the pickup are not uncommon, this can lead to top and bottom end failures. Leaks around the injectors are another problem on that engine. Not too bad as long as the injectors can be removed without breaking!
Specific to the 407 range is a failure of the heater controls to regulate the temperature delivered. Full dash out stripdown, around £1K including parts.

Thanks all! Looks like I´ll be hunting for a 3.0 hdi coupe in a couple of years, or a C5 with the same engine.
Cheers

Is the 1.6 hdi the same as in a Ford focus 1.6 hdi? What about the 2.0 hdi who is that shared with?
After using a Laguna for mega miles recently, I decided I need a comfy reliably hack and. A 407 would suit me, but I'm massively put off by something. I don't know how reliable they are. I like French cars but I know the 307 and the early 2000s in general were a low point so does the 407 fall into that category? 307s always seem to have half the rear lights not working.
Do 407s have DPFs?
Can they be tough like 306s/406s?
What about the Coupe - good or bad move?
Is the 2.7 hdi the same as the Jaguar/Land Rover engine and is it recommended?
Can you get them with Bluetooth or iPod/MP3 capability?

This shouldn't be a thread hijack as the questions are relevant to the original poster I believe.
