Bought the above as I will soon be commuting to work and leaving it out in the sun all day so wanted something cheap and cheerful.

Its all in good condition but has a very odd Speedo fault. I have owned several 406 coupes so am used to the speed sensor interface packing up but this is different from what I have experienced.

As soon as you start the car it goes to 60 (km as now living in Aus). It then increases as it should so for example 60 is now roughly 120, 70 is now 130, 80 is 140 etc.

anyone got any ideas?

thanks

James

Hmm. Someone's taken the clocks apart or removed the needles and not put it back together properly?

I have a similar fault on my wife`s 97 406 auto. The speedo has a mind of its own, when its not working give the dash a thump and it starts working,I`ve tried all sorts with out any luck, you will need a new instrument cluster.

I dont know, the strange thing is that it goes back to 0 when you turn off the car, it doesnt jump back to 60 until you start moving. Also the power steering stays at low speed setting (very light)

Odd. I presume the power steering is controlled by a similar valve setup as the 306 which reacts depending on road speed. Maybe the speed sensor on the gearbox is knackered?

Ok,

I have purchased a lovely set of coupe diesel clocks to see if that helps, I can check the earths when I take them out to change them. I will try the speedo interface also (it always helps to have a spare anyway). Failing that it has to be the gearbox sensor.
