I'm after a super sheep. Does anyone have any experience of the v6 saloon or estate?
It would be the later 210 bhp model that I'm after...
Thanks

I have 406 V6 SV D9, 5-speed manual transmission, 2000 model. The quickest car i ever own so far.

The fuel economy is very impressive. On highway, o do average 7 L/100 km or 39+ mpg, at about 120 km/h. You will love her, if you get one.

Will highly recommend the D9 406 V6 to anyone who wants a fun car with powerful engine and good fuel economy, especially the manual transmission.

The auto transmission in the 406 V6, AL4, is not as reliable as auto trans in Japs. Would advice you get a manual transmission one.

Ikenna.

They are a super old car and you will not have to pay much for a good one,£1K-£2K ?.These old Peugeot`s were well made and do not suffer with any major problems, but I`ve known V6`s to brake the N/S engine mount out of the inner wing(its a big lump in a 406).The V6 is a superb engine but being a four cam 24valve,changing the cam belt is an experts job and can cost best part of £1K !!!(pully kit, water pump, aux belt etc).So when your looking at one make sure its been replaced. Good hunting.

I have owned several v6 coupes manuals right through consistently from 1999 to 2010

I have never got over low 20's per gallon for the more streamlined coupe and that was even new on motorway use.

They are quick but not super quick. For comparison I drove 911, various TVR's and esprit turbo as my weekend cars. My coupe's were daily drivers. I could easily get up to 150.

Always go for the manual, make sure its well serviced with decent oil and they will go forever. Coil packs can be an issue but would probably be replaced by now.

I embarrassed TT's, Boxsters, Standard Impreza STI's and plenty of 350Z's

I now drive a Passat w8 as my daily- 12 mpg with a heavy foot but will hit 180 and substantially quicker once moving. best sheep by far!

cam belt comes as a kit and any garage can do it. When I first bought mine new it had to be done by Peugeot but after five years anyone could do it. Never cost me over 600 quid.

For info it has to be done at 80k, I paid to have mine done then five years later I took it to another garage as the one I used closed down. Turned out they had charged me but hadnt replaced it- it was on 130k IIRC and still in pretty good condition.

I was a police officer and used my car for work- as such I would often be doing well over the speed limit legally so it was used hard and never failed. Its not as urgent as most people seem to think although I do still do mine on time.

I've got an auto D9 V6 coupe and it's plenty fast (sport mode makes a VAST difference - I have a footswitch mod to activate it).

MPG is however utterly abysmal, 20-22 tops.

Seem to be loads more V6 coupes about than saloons/estates, and they won't be getting any cheaper from now on.

I had sport mode on my first one, didnt really make a difference- just stiffened up the suspension IIRC. By comparision the second car I had was substantially quicker than the first. No idea why but it didnt have a sport button and less toys- guessing less weight. I only had the manuals as I found the auto significantly slower when test driving them new - I didnt buy the manual as it was yellow and I couldnt decide if I liked it, then when went back it was sold. I was about to buy an alfa 156 v6 when I happened on a manual after giving up (they were super rare back in late 90's and took me over 6 months to find a manual despite having cash in my hand)
