What engine oil - Peugeot 306 HDI

Just picked up a Pug 306 HDI for the other half.
It's due a service and never having owned / worked on a diesel before I'm unsure what engine oil I should be using. I had it in my head that engine oil for a diesel would be different than that for a petrol engine? A quick google seems to reveal that this is not necessarily the case.

I always put 5/40 fully synthetic in this engine,it's only a couple of quid dearer than semi,i have never yet had to fit a turbo or had any other engine problems to deal with.
Cheers! Picked up 5/40 fully synthetic oil today (plus all the other bits needed for a service). That's my saturday afternoon taken care of
