Citroen Dispatch brake issue

Hi, I have got a facelifted 2004 Citroen Dispatch van which has started having an issue with the brakes.
On occasions, when the brakes are applied, it feels like the ABS pump kicks in just as it comes to a halt. There is a noticeable pulse on the brake pedal and a sound as if something is pumping in the engine bay. It doesn't happen all the time and the brakes still work fine - it passed the MOT last week with no mention of a problem. Just wondering what it may be and hoping someone may be able to help??
