Went to the pub today after work. Walked past my spiffing awesome Rallye; regarded with my companions how spiffingly awesome it was, parked at the end of the next road up, on the way to the Cambridge. All were agreed it was spiffingly awesome.
Came back not one hour later to find it with a flat OS rear tyre. Thought it odd that we didn't notice on the way up, so went to have a closer look.
Yup, it's definitely flat:
But hold on, what's this:
It seems there's a scrape (or three) on the bumper as well:
And the skirt has parted company with the sill:
And the mirror got a bit of a rub (lucky I always fold them in, otherwise it'd really have taken a wallop):
But overall, for a hit and run on a parked car, it's not too bad. I mean, anyone could have done it. And if you're in such a rush that you pop another man's tyre, it really would be asking a bit much that you leave your details on a note under the wiper.... I mean, it's not as if the whole rear quarter needs replacing or anything:
Does anyone have some T-Cut I can borrow?
__
Serious note though, on the basis that a new bonnet and a repainted bumper and front wing cost near nigh £800, what are the chances this is going to end up a total loss claim?
__
And if anyone happens to live in BS6 and recognises the car, you didn't happen to see anyone drive into it earlier did you?

Gutted for you, I'm guessing the words describing how you really feel aren't publicly broadcast-able on here!!! Unlikely I know, but I hope you find the scumbag who drove away from that. But they were probably pissed and uninsured anyway...
Body shop said about £500 to repair, until I pointed out the rear beam has moved about an inch on the offside.
Pretty gutted. Insurance co are doing their quote on sat. Will weigh up my options then.
It's a 306.
Sad to see and gutting when this sort of thing happens On the bright side (if there is one) I'd say £500 seems a good price and if you can get hold of a Xsara VTS beam that'll fit and has bigger ARBs.
Sorry that some spacker has wrecked your car I'd be tempted to ring UPS and see if they had anyone in the area at the time. Most couriers have trackers fitted and it'll be pretty obvious if someone comes back with red paint and equivalent damage on their van.

Think the beam is OK. It's what it's attached to that's bent!
Going to the body shop tomo to get the ins co's quote. Not holding out much hope for anything less than a total loss.
Still drives OK though, if a little sideways.
But there is one bright side: opportunity to ditch the P6000s on the back and buy something decent. If one didn't have a big hole in there'd be a year's motoring left in them.

Just got a call from the underwriters engineer. No surprise that it's a total loss. Some surprise that they only offered me £700 as the settlement though!
I sold my 120k 306lx for more than that, and that was an absolute snotter by ccomparison.
Three Rallyes up on ph now are advertised for 1550 to 2150, and none look as nice as mine! (Non standard seats from a boggo 306 for the low price. 35k more miles for the most expensive )
Very disappointed.

Cat C write off, as expected. Happy with that the settlement from the ins co was about right in terms of car value. Have retained salvage, as it's still driveable, and am now pricing up parts to put the back axle back on straight... and keeping half an eye open for a replacement car.
Looks like about £250 for new genuine Pug beam mounts. At that price, I might actually have to take the beam off first, just to see what's actually bent!

Can't imagine it's bent the mounts really. Lift up the boot carpet and sound deadening and check all the mounting points for ripples in case the beam has shifted and rippled the mounting point. You'll see four groups of bolts which are holding your axle on.
Pattern mounts can be had very cheap but are only really good for seeing if it lines up ok. Might be worth pillaging some from a scrapper just to mock it up with your beam and see if everything is straight. My money is on a bent trailing arm.

It was the mount - the OS front one had snapped at the upper bolt hole in the tab that goes into the beam. This allowed the lower bit of steel to rotate, and the rubber to deform which meant the beam could move forward. New non-gen beam mount on there for the moment. Will replace with genuine in the near future.
Thanks for the offer Jord, but it looks like the beam is pretty new. Still paint on the beam tube and torsion bars. No evidence of play or misalignment anywhere. Gave it a clean off, and sprayed the last of my waxoyl all over it while it was off, in preparation for the inevitable rebuild.
Just need to find a new wheel, then I can get some new tyres. And then get the bodywork done. And then replace all the beam mounts. And then get 4 wheel aligment done. By then it'll probably need another head gasket or something...
Got the cheque through from the insurance co on Friday, so at least I can crack on with things now.
