On way home from work the c5 threw a airbag fault warning and the service light came, got home and restarted car and no airbag warning.

Is there anything i can check myself or is it a garage job?

My C5 had the same problem after I used it to jump start a lorry. Switching the car off and on again fixed it, and the warning didn't come back in the 2 years I kept the car.

In some cars, moving the seat can cause the airbag warning to come on. This can be cured by cleaning or soldering the connectors under the seat.

I have a similar problem with my Picasso, it only happens though in very hot conditions and I've found that if I simply throw a cover such as a sweatshirt over the dash where the airbag is located I don't get the fault. A dashboard can get very hot in sunlight.
