Turn thr key to start it and starter motor clicks, do this repeatedly and eventually it spins and starts.

Changed starter motor and now turn key and it turns over very slowly two or three times with rev counter waving to 3k and then randomly works perfect and starts.

Known issue? Presume a ground somewhere

20 year old French electrics & wiring tbh - more than likely related to the brown multi-plug and / or the wiring that passes through it, in the bay. Wiring / connections to the starter / solenoid are probably pretty worn by now too frown

Mine's done this for the last 3 odd years & only a month ago did I decide (after it took 15 mins to start the car) that i'd had enough & booked it in with Miles @ Pug Racing. Essentially getting it all stripped back & redone with new connections, cleaned terminals, etc, etc.

Also the switched live terminal on the solenoid corrodes. Reterminate and see what happens.

I also have had a new loom from Miles, oh and then another when I changed ECU to a 3rd party one. This solved loads of possible issues.

Again www.205gtidrivers.com will have all your answers.
Both of us are on there.

As everyone has said change multiplug, wire to starter solenoid as well, also check the three earths, as this was the last cause of my phantom non start.
