I've just been looking at a 406 estate 2.0HDI 53 plate. The price is pretty reasonable but on inspection I lifted up the rear seats and the foam underneath was a little damp and there was rust on the underneath of the seat. It wasn't soaking but lead me to think its been getting water on it over a long period of time. The boot well and carpets were all bone dry.

Anybody got any ideas?

Cheers!

Find another.

IIRC they leak from the rear lights on the saloon much likt the 405. Not sure if this is the problem with an estate tho?

Thanks S10GTA, I read your Mi16 from Scotland thread which was a great read!

I'm still tempted by it as i'm struggling for a decent estate and the 406 I described above would have been a good one to get bar the probable leak. I've checked around on Google and nothing specific seems to be coming up other than the usual worn or damaged seals and rubbers. I don't really want to buy a car and then be chasing around it for a leak, i've been there and done that before!

Many moons ago I was a passenger in my mate's dad's 405 saloon and I had to endure a wet bum from a leak to the rear passenger seat I was sat in. Not wanting to cause any embarassment I didn't mention it to his dad and for a few months his dad thought I'd pissed myself and wet his seat! It was only the next time he had a passenger that he realised there was a leak.

Does the car have a factory fit sunroof, as a drain channel could be blocked. I had this problem with my A4 Avant with a factory sunroof.

No sunroof. I've had a leaking sunroof before so I always try and avoid cars with a sun roof!

Been out to take a look at another one today, much better nick, lower miles and a decent service history. I checked boot, carpets and seats and no dampness or rust so i think it might be a winner.
