I don't have all the details yet, but my brother's car has been leaking oil for a while now (not badly, I don't think). He has called a Renault specialist, and they've told him it'll need the cambelt removing to do the work - obviously pushing the cost up.

Does anyone know where the leak is likely to be coming from, and whether it could be fixed without a cambelt removal? The cambelt has only been replaced relatively recently, and to do all of that work would probably be 50%+ the value of the car.

Thanks in advance for any help.

If it's cambelt off time it sounds like the cam seals have gone.

You need to take the belt off to replace especially if the oil has leaked onto it.

Make sure all the covers are properly replaced.

Or it could be the crankshaft oil seal

Best of luck with that one.
Even the wipers need to come off to get access to the engine mount (and the starter motor and the alternator etc etc). Took me nearly 12 hours to replace the timing belt on mine.
