Decades of working on cars has taught me to avoid French cars if possible, especially Peugeots.

From the stupid distributor location on the 304 (I know! I am getting on a bit now) making fitting points a nightmare, to the half baked design of 206 suspension arms, culminating with the E7 which needs 8 hours to change a clutch,I just dread them.

Renaults are a bit better but Citroens with their ingenious answers to problems that don't really exist aren't really suited to the home workshop.

Imagine my surprise this weekend when I was roped in to help a mate swap the clutch on a Citroen C5, ie he watches me do it . Despite having hydraulic suspension, the job was simple and straight forward, no cunningly inaccessible nuts nor needing special tools, not even needing every conceivable size and type of spanner. What made me almost giddy was that the gearbox had a proper drain plug and even a filler plug on top.

Has the world gone so mad that Citroens of all things have become easy to work on? If so, what has brought this on?

PS I still hate Peugeots
