My c5 has thrown up a couple of problems:

1- the shock absorbers are creaking and groaning, car feels perfectly ok to drive though.

2- climate control has gone mental.
The only way to turn fan off is turning engine off, can't adjust fan speed, temperature, both sides are set to 22 but passenger's side is hot and drivers is cool? If you press the climate control button it doesn't activate.

Front or rear groaning?
The heater fan is controlled by a resistor pack, fitted by two M7 headed screws near the clutch pedal,it has two multi block connectors going into it and is about 55mm by 30mm,they are about £40 from GSF,as for the heat that may be the servo or servo gear operating the flap, more common to fail on C4 than C5 though.

Rear.

Would the heater fan packing up cause the auto climate control to stop? The fan is still turning but not showing on LCD display also you can't turn on the air con.

All I can do is adjust where the air goes and recirculate the air.

Groaning from rear will be radius arm bearings .
Change the heater resistor ( very common failure) that will make fan control operate again.
