Thinking of buying a 3 door 1.4 VTI Sport (I appreciate 1.4 and "sport" don't normally go together )

Mainly due to the low insurance, economy yada yada.

Read about the 207 GTI having engine problems (appears to be mainly linked to the turbo as far as I can gather, so shouldn't be an issue on the 1.4 VTI)

Just wondered if anyone has one, or had any experience of one, and any common faults?

I'm looking around the 2008 models, found one with 22,000 on it for just under £5,000.

Any advice much appreciated.

I would recommend one. Just check for decent service history, even with the low mileage it should have had an oil change, new tyres etc. You're right, the timing issue only affects the turbo petrol engines (gt and gti models)

Just check on a test drive that the car comes out of 5th gear and into 4th with no problems. There is a known fault whereby the "gate" of the gears were not set correctly from factory, but it's really not a big problem.

I can't see it being any more trouble than any other used car
