Hello!

Basically ive just bought a 54 clio 182, 80000 miles for a decent price. However, it has no record of cambelts etc being changed. I am right in thinking its kinda foolish just surmising they have been done at around the 76000 mile mark right?

Thanks!

If it's been done, the previous owner would've been highly likely to want to prove this in the form of a receipt/invoice/stamp/whatever.

I would agree that it is foolish to simply assume that the car has been serviced on time with no evidence smile

Extremely foolish, take it to a garage you trust to check if it has been or not. If not get it done ASAP and by someone decent as they can run terribly when timed badly.

Alright, cheers for confirming my doubts. Had budgeted for the belts etc, but works really quiet atm and its a big chunk to spend, but it needs doing, more for peace of mind really.

Thanks again.

You're going to have to do them, really, and I think most of us would agree that an overdue belt service is probably worth dipping into savings/overdraft as opposed to waiting/saving up for it.

Where in the country are you? There's probably a PHer who can recommend a Renault specialist - the belts/tensioners need tools that most garages don't have smile

Cambelts on the 182 need to be done every 5 years or every 70k which ever came first. So even if the belts where replaced at 5 years they will need to be done again next year.

If you're anywhere near Hampshire I really can't recommend RenTech enough!
