Hello all,

First post as I am looking at selling my Leon FR TDi that I have had for 6 years and have been looking at a Peugeot 207 GTi that somebody wants to swap with me.

If anybody can pass on details of any faults or issues then this would be helpful.

Also, I was wondering if anybody knew if you can after fir the auto wipers and headlights?

Thanks

A friend of mine has one of these. I had one for a few months when they first came out.

You really want one with an Octane pack (auto lights, wipers, folding mirrors and parking sensors). There's a lot of them out there for not much money so it's worth getting one with the higher spec.

They are often hated but I enjoyed driving it and thought it was nice to look at.

Its worth doing your homework on these.

Both the gt 150 and gti 175 petrol engines can lose timing, resulting in limp mode, depollution faulty warnings and eventual death of the engine!

Take a read http://www.etuners.gr/en/index.php?s=12&t=167

Ask the owner if there has been any work on the car in relation to the timing issue.

Thanks,

I have read about a number of issues with them and after 6 years of motering with a car that at worst has eaten some tyres, I am loathed to go to a car that might have many niggles.

I will have a read of the thread so thanks for that.

How good's your French? There's a good article here:

http://www.largus.fr/actualite-automobile/moteurs-...

which explains the problems with these engines & details the fixes which have been applied & the date they were applied.

Avoid like the plague.

I took a 207 GTI in part ex only for it to fall to pieces 2 weeks later. It seems to be common for these cars to have long lists of faults that usually happen one after another. The faults that occur are usually major ones that can't really be covered or bodged up either if you fancied trading the car in and cutting your losses etc.

My current total spent on just keeping it on the road in repairs.... £2000.

Appreciate the comments, I had someone offering a swap with a 2007 GTi for my Leon and after reading a lot of the comments, I am not willing to go to a car with these type of hassles.

My Leon has never been off the road for more than a day in 6 years and that tells me something.

Appreciate all the feedback, but NO Pug 207 GTi for me

I was looking at them as a replacement for the wives 206 GTI.. On paper it's perfect. Think they look great, too.

Then I looked more into them and found the same issues as mentioned above (the R56 Cooper S Minis have the same engine and issues)

I thought I'd still buy one and put £500 into it replacing the timing chain/guides etc etc with the newer parts to stop any issues.. Then I read about abs pumps at £500 odd quid and that was kind of the nail in the coffin.

I'll probably buy an early R26 Megane for not much more.

I had one years back... Mine was 225 F1, highly recommend.

If the R26 is out of budget, just make sure you get a facelift (most 06 onwards) with the Cup pack and you've basically the same car (without LSD)

Cheers, have only really looked at facelift as I don't want to have an older car than I already have at a 55.

Only thing that concerns me with these is the fuel costs after having a derv for 6 years.

They look fully loaded though and well priced.
