Hi guys,

Servicing a Clio III today and I've dropped a bloody spanner down the engine bay before i've gone to disconnect the battery, and it's shorted on the alternator and an earth. Lots of sparks. Now there are no electrics!!

Oddly however the remote central locking still works.

When I turn the key there are definitely some noises but nothing happening. No dash lights, no hazards, no horn, no heater etc etc.

Any ideas?!

Cheers

Check the fusible link on the battery positive terminal.

I am 99% sure that the main fuse on the side of the battery has blown. It leaves the car completely dead (other than central locking).

On the side of the battery you will see a small red box, and inside most likely a blown fuse like the one below. It is a simple and cheap (~£20) fix IIRC).
