So I've managed to pretty much run a set of P-zero's down to the markers in 12,000 miles.

Considering most of that was fairly stately progress I don't really fancy shelling out for another set at about £100 a side fitted.

So on the hunt for 2 front tyres. I think the general wisdom is something with a stiff sidewall works best with these so Toyos are out. Anyone know of a good option in Kuhmo/Falken or similar?

I have Uniroyal Rainsport 2 tyres all round on my Ph2 172. Excellent grip wet or dry (as you'd expect) and so far seem to be wearing well on the fronts. They get a good review and are also very highly thought of on ClioSport.

Morning!

I've got Pilot Sport 3s on the front of mine, had Kumhos on before that.

Michelins have been excellent - a fair few quid more expensive than the Kumho Ecstas at the time of purchase, but I've got nearly 13,000 miles instead of 11,000 from the Kumhos so that's mitigated a wee bit.

FWIW the next tyres I get will almost certainly be the Michelins again. I'm happier with them on - no difference for me between the Kumhos and PS3s in dry conditions, but the Kumhos seemed to lose traction in the wet a wee bit earlier, especially towards the end of their life.

The Kumho is by no means a bad tyre though, everyone else in my immediate family uses them (Solus and the Ecsta) with no issues.

I run Continental Premium Contacts and they're superb all year round. I haven't had any experience with the Micheleins to compare however as they're the usual choice.

Perhaps I'll get a set of Contis and see how I get on.

Does seem a bit strange having Contis on a Clio though, Michelin have done a grand job cornering a bit of the market.

Just a quick point about soft / hard sidewalls etc, mine has T1Rs, fresh original cup dampers with SLIGHTY lower Eibach springs, the best thing I did was get the tracking to toe out slightly, toe out completely elimintated that "tucking under" feel from the outside tyre and the car felt SO much squaurer on turn in!

Downside? Al lot more wear on the inner edges but for me it's worth it!

Currently running winter Goodyear GW3s which change things but strangely not as much as winter tyres affected my old Impreza GB270 Wagon!

After the weather in London today it's crystal ball time for regular tyres to go back on!

Hankook V12 Evos are worth a look, very reasonably priced and a good performance compromise too.

I bought a brand new set about a month ago (195/45/15) for the rears and they were the older style which are same as my fronts.. These were ordered in & bought from gates tyres.

I thoroughly rate RainSport 2's, probably the best road tyre i've driven on.

I recently bought a 172 Cup with Falken ZE192's and i am pleasantly suprised by their grip - fantastic!

Really dont rate T1R's in the wet, or anything that resembles damp!

Never had an issue personally but have never run anything else on the Clio to compare.

This.

Years back I went from Bridgstone S02s, to Dunlop Sport SP9000 (Both EPIC tyres) to Toyo T1Rs and felt like I had fallen off a cliff! (all on a Williams) Sorry to dis them but complete rubbish. (They were half the price tho so thats prob why) Could never understand why they ever got a good rep. If you're going to spend money on anything 'performance' related, spend it on tyres.

In the end I went Pzero again. Got a good price that was only a few £ more. They do feel great I have to say.

I ran T1-Rs on my 306 rallye for years and thought they were great (especially for the price), I just seem to remember that they weren't recommended on the 182. Probably internet bks but that's what stuck in my head.

The clio is not that heavy so I don't know why it could be a problem?

K-Tec recommend them as do a lot of the guys on cliosport.net

I need a pair on mine, thinking of trying Falkens if they are cheaper bit have been very happy with the T1Rs over the last 3.5years.

Incredible how different people's experiences of T1Rs are on here!

When the weather turns warmer I'll be putting a full set of new tyres on the 182, I had intended to have another set of T1Rs , I would quite like to take the opportunity to try something else but doubt I will because I've enjoyed them so much!

I have AD08s on my R26.R but as my girlfriend also drives the Clio it might be a bit irresponsible to waive her off on cold, wet mornings on a set of those, might give R1Rs a go on the Clio next!
