Can anybody shed some light on this?

Car is an 04 2.0 petrol. Suggestions have been lambda sensor (this is actually what the fault code pointed to, but we're unsure as that's a bit generic), injector (or replacing whole fuel rail) or at worst... Valve buckets. Looking at people's experiences on the Internet, they have firstly replaced coil packs but to no avail. I'd like to get it right first time, instead of throwing money at it. It will cough and splutter, especially when cold, in low gears before picking up and generally runs pretty poorly. Management light has cleared and has not reappeared, which is slightly worrying.

Any thoughts, anybody?
Thank you gents.

Awfull engine, I would do a compression check, normally these cars suffer with hydraulic lifter failures which cause the misfires.

personally, i'd check colour of plugs, and if difference in colour, i'd try coilpack

We had similar symptoms and it turned out to be a cracked manifold. Unfortunately, the Lamba sensor ended up snapping when trying to remove it, so that had to be replaced too.

Diagnosis is the key, otherwise you will spend unnecessary money trying this and trying that.
Knowing these I would say its either an injector or hyd`valve lifters.Anti pollution fault just means the engine is running inefficiently (anything??).Two choices ?? Find a good Peugeot/Citoen Indy to diagnose the fault.
OR,if its valve lifters? try running the engine with Forte flush for an hour and drain.Fill with the correct grade (very important)full syth`oil and new filter, together with Forte Gas treatment in the fuel tank and Forte hyd` valve lifter treatment in the new oil.
Bullst?? no,I`ve used this stuff and it works.

Try cleaning the MAP first..

It's easy and free to do. It may or may not work. The map is a pressure sensor so the chances of it being dirty and not working are slim.

My lasses 206 with the same engine.. 138hp? Took a downturn in mpg so I cleaned that and its improved and generally runs smoother.

THIS!Very common fault usually caused by cheap/wrong grade oil and 20000 mile service intervals.

Thank you gents, especially to OldMerc. I've spoken to a Citroen/Peugeot tech, who tells me he can't do anything for me until the engine management light reappears, which I thought was a bit of a cop-out if I'm honest. If you set your stall out to be a specialist, do we have to rely on engine diagnostics to find a fault?

None the less I'm going to have him look at it this coming week, and will print this thread out and leave it on the passenger seat...

I have the same problem with my 04 1.4 16v model as the OP.
Any other suggestions would be helpful.

I bet the fault will be p0600 various misfire detected, common as muck and caused by the hydraulic lifters.

As old merc said above change the oil and filter and add an additive, the chap who said without the light being on he can't do nothing sounds like he can't be arsed, codes will be stored if the light has been on.

Hi

Seen a few posts about this. Overview is misfire/runs like crap/engine management light on/no power/shakes etc..

Plugged her in told me misfire/coilpack

changed plugs and coil pack and now saying Injector fault / short circuit to live.

Sounds like a few others have had this similar issue. is it likely it is the injector or is there another solution?

Injectors are hidden away and look like a big job to get too. anyone had this done and have examples of costs involved.

thanks for any feedback
