Has anyone else had a problem with their Megane RS250 on full lock? Mine feels like the wheel is going to fall off - it clunks and almost feels like the wheel is loose or the wheel is buckled! The wheels are fine so I assume it is a suspension problem.

Took it in to main dealer who had it for 5 days - they said they can feel exactly what I mean but cannot find a fault. Also said they checked another which did the same and it must therefore be a "characteristic"! I can't believe this - if I had felt this on a test drive I would never buy the car, nor could I believe Renault would release a car with such a characteristic.

Will take it to another dealer for a second opinion, but any other comments or experiences would be grateful received.

Many thanks in advance.

How worn are your tyres? The Megane runs a fair bit of caster so on full lock not much of the tyre touches the ground, so it tends to skip along.

Do you notice this mostly when you're just starting the car and the tyres are cold?

My car was skipping a lot on my worn tyres. Just had new ones fitted and it's fine again.

As another problem, it may be worth looking at this:

Though I will say, only one person on Meganesport has experienced this problem so far since the 250 has been released.

I thought all of them dragged their wheel on full lock? Mine has always done it either way (250 Cup).

Yep they all do it a bit. Much worse when your tyres are worn though.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

The tyres do not appear to be too worn - the car has only done 8k miles from new and is not always driven enthusiastically!

The juddering/clunking happens whenever the car is on full lock, albeit far worse turning right than left and it does not seem any different whether from cold or after a run. My concern is that it feels so wrong that I am worried that there is damage and it will get steadily worse (and probably not become an apparent fault until after the warranty runs out later this year!)

I guess I will just get a second opinion and if nothing is found then will have to accept it is what it is.

Cheers

Mine (I've had two 250s and am in a 265 at the moment) have all done this. Seems most noticeable when on full lock reversing out of my driveway into the road. Worrying grinding sound but hard to pinpoint what it is. At least you can take comfort that it's not just your car.

I've not had experience of any Megane 250's (only four Clio RS's) and they have all done this on full lock, it feels like its 'skipping' or knocking as it were.

I know the suspension is different etc but the fix may be that the shock is catching on the top mount and it needs to be spaced away with a washer - this seems to sort it on Clio's so i reckon it may be an idea on the Megane!

Hope this is of some help/direction!

could be the diff..... the gallardo diff does this at full lock and relates to the viscocity of the fluid as it is mechanical...... nowt to worry about......

andrew..... 250 vs 265..... worth the extra cash?

Hi, not sure if anyone still follows this thread but my dad's RS is doing the same thing with the clonking and wondered if anyone able to pinpoint it's cause and find a solution? Cheers

I’ve had my 275 from virtually new and it’s always done this on full lock - I think it’s the effect of the limited slip diff.

I drove an MX5 with a welded diff at Drift Limits and that was like an exaggerated version of what I experience on the Meg.

The Meg is much worse on my summer tyres (PS2) than winters (Sottozero)

Yep, definitely a result of having the limited slip diff up front.

Mine has done it from day one and is just something you attribute to "Because Race Car"

It's the diff. I noticed it on my old 275 especially when it was wet and the car was not warmed up. Have you ever driven a car with a locking diff before? Nothing to worry about
