My Dad has a 2005/55 Renault Grand Scenic 1.6.

On Saturday, he drove it from his house to ours - approx 1 mile. All fine.

After calling at ours, he got back in it to drive a further 10 miles only to find the dashboard all in darkness and not working. Nothing.

He drove the ten miles he needed to drive, dropped off my Mum at work, and carried on to the local Renault dealer.

Renault said it was a £600 problem but Renault would contribute £450, so just £150. (nothing like a bit of confidence in your cars!) Booked in for Wednesday.

Went out of dealer, to car, got in - to find it all working fine.

Only issue is that mileage had jumped 6000 miles from 73k to 79k.

Now what!?

Spoke to a mechanic mate of mine who says the dashboard may well never be an issue again - but the mileage - what to do? Can't prove that it's not done 79k or 73k! Last MOT was approx 8 months ago at circa 65k.

Is this a genuine reason to call a 'mileage correction' person (i guess not!?) or is the fact that it's a 7 year old petrol French car with 70k+ on it a reason for the 6k difference not really mattering!?

Just seems an odd one!

P.S. Mileage isn't a previous issue with the car and we don't believe it's been tampered with previously as car is ex-mobility, bought approx 4 years ago from a Renault main dealer, with just 24k on the clock with all history checking out ok and mileages/service book tying up nicely with the mileage showing on it.

depending on what dash will be applicable to your car the mileage my be 0 when your dash is fitted or may be able to be programmed in to what was on there previously, ask the tech nicely and he'll put on what you want.......within reason. as long as you explain the situation

Hi Sider,

The mileage jumping is one of several common problems with Renault Megane and Scenic dashboards, there is a dash repair specialist in Waterlooville in Hampshire called Cartronix, I send all my Renault owning customers there if the dealer will not help them and they are happy to sort out mileage issues of a legitimate nature.

There is some more information on their website: http://www.cartronix.co.uk/Pages/Speedometer_Repai...

Hope that helps you
