Hi,

Last August the 207 (1.4 petrol) was losing coolant so the mechanic said it was a leaking radiator, got that replaced, sorted.

Since then the 207 engine temperature doesn't seem to be right. For about 3-4months the temperature hand would move to about 75 then suddenly it didn't move at all, just stuck on 0. I found the car was again losing coolant so I left it into the garage to get sorted. He said he didn't see a coolant leak but the temperature gauge was faulty and replaced it. He said he had hooked the car to the computer and even though the display on the dash wasn't moving he said the engine temperature was correct. I have been working away from home so only got a chance to look at it now.

I have left the car running for about 30mins and its still stuck on 0?? I can't hear a fan either and I have the heating on full blast. Granted it is cold outside but should the temperature be rising and if so what should it rise to?

My A3 rises when sitting idle then the fan kicks in and I was thinking this should do the same?

Many thanks in advance for your replies.

UPDATE
I had the heating on full blast but when I turned that off the temperature hand went up quite quick to just below 90. Is this the point where the fan should kick in?

Sounds like dodgy temp sensor to dash. Has it been replaced? Check the thermostat is working also. Replace the fan control switch also to be safe.

Just had a new thermostat put into my 205 GTI.

If left idling temperature would would go up to 70-80, normal. Once I started to drive the temperature gauge would drop right down to 10 and the blowers inside would go cold.

New thermostat supplied fitted £60. Job done.
