I've just been over to my brother's house, and his Renault Modus won't start.

Turning the key, it'll attempt to start, but the engine won't start up. It hasn't been rough riding beforehand apparently.

I had first thought coil pack(s) since the starter motor appears to work but the engine just won't 'spark' into life (excuse the pun), but if it hasn't been rough riding at all, I'd think this is less likely.

I am FAR from an expert, so I would appreciate any input!

Which engine? Crankshaft Position Sensor is a common fault in Renaults, however there are signs before it finally gives out.

First of all, thanks for coming back to me!

It's the 1.6 petrol engine. Apparently no signs beforehand, but I've not driven it recently...

Same thing happened to my workmate's Modus last night. Was running fine but now the starter runs but the engine doesn't fire up.

Any ideas?

Turn the key, what happens? do you hear the fuel pump run? does the immobiliser light flash, stay on? give us a couple of clues

Nothing out of the ordinary just won't fire. Apparently the cam sensor according to the garage.

Don't you hate threads where the OP comes asking for help, yet never comes back to update on the solution to help others?!

Sound like immobiliser problems - could it be a fuel cut-off switch triggered? Always worth a try. And check the fuses, especially the ones relating to the fuel system.
