Hello,

I have recently put the wifes 207 in for MOT and it has failed on a broken rear coil spring, not the worst news, could be worse. I took it to a place that charge £25.00 for the MOT which is good but I guess they make money on the repairs. I was told the coil springs have to be bought in pairs at a cost of £114+VAT and to fit £100+vateekI took the car away and said I will get the work done.

Anyway I have two questions please;

1/ I can buy a coil spring new for £18.50 as a single item, do they have to be fitted in pairs? I asked the MOT guy and he said fit the single spring and bring it back and he will pass it but some people say fit as a pair?

2/ How long should a garage charge to change one rear spring on a 207? I would have thought 30mins tops but I could be wrong.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Yes you can just change one spring,at least an hour per side to fit them.

Its such an easy job so its best to change both springs while your at it.Broken springs are common on Pugs so if one has gone the other will go soon.

Thank you both for your reply.

I have bought a coil spring for £18.50 and having it fitted this week so it passes the MOT. He didn't say exactly how much to fit but about an hour he said.

My wife didn't notice anything strange with the broken spring - how would you know if its broken while driving?

Most people would hardly notice a broken spring,especially if it is just the last part of the top or bottom coil.Sometimes the car looks a little lopsided.

If you would have went to a Peugeot dealer you would have got the spring replaced for free as they have a warraty extension upto 10 years.

That's interesting about the Peugeot Dealer replacing for free. Does that include labour?

Do you have a link for this or is it common knowledge?

Thanks for the info.

Is that what you're talking about?

Road coil springs for all models are covered for 100,000 miles or 10 years, so if you have a broken spring your local dealer will supply and fit a new spring under warranty and if like the the thing that normaly happens on 406,s and it damages the drop link when the spring breaks they will also replace that.
