Dear All,
I have a circa 2001 Peugeot 306 HDI Meridian diesel. Owned since new, FSH , has done just south of 120k.

Just did a 7 mile round trip to do some errands. About a mile from home, warning light comes up on the dash. Turns out its the W/L
concerning the ABS system.

Not looked under the bonnet yet (Its heaving down with rain here) but no evidence of fluid leaks over past few days. Nothing else seems any different,
car seemed to be the same, including brakes. Although of course I did drive a little steadier and had no need for hard braking.

So, can anyone advise what I could look for here? What are the likely causes to be? I'm afraid what I know about ABS is that involves the brakes and their efficiency and thats about it . I may be able to lay hands on a Haynes over the weekend, to help educate myself.

Any info/ advice meanwhile ,greatfully welcomed.

I'd put money on it be sensor related.

Each wheel has a sensor and they do fail from time to time.

I'd try giving each wheel area a good wash with a hose from the underside of the car (i.e. inside the wheel dish) as it might just be crud related.

If not you'll need to find out which sensor is at fault and bolt a new one on.

If thats what the problem is its not a big job.

The only way to find the fault is to plug a diag` in and read the codes. As said more than likely to be one of the sensors, but I`ve known the sensor pick up ring on one of the drive shafts to fall off. Also if it has discs on the rear I`ve known the sensor pick up ring in the hub to fail.
Like all these faults a proper diagnosis is important to avoid wasting time, money and replacing parts unnecessarily.

Thanks all, I heeded advice and popped down to the local independent garage . Its the offside front ABS ring. Doing it for me on Monday.

Will cost me around £130 all in, but once its done its done. thumbup
