Suspension knock on Peugeot 207 GT
Discussion
I get a hollow knock when the car is driven over washboard surface or drops into a manhole. I've checked all the suspension bushes including the drop links and roll bar and they're all good. I've been told by Peugeot that it could be a broken Macpherson strut. Any thoughts? Also is there an easy way to check the struts without removing them?
The "strut" relates to the whole spring/damper assembly so sounds like an advanced way of saying that there is "something" wrong with the suspension but we're not quite sure what it is until we've charged you a lot of money to have a look.
Jack it up and have a look at the bottom of the springs. My car did the same thing when the pigtail snapped off and got wedged between the spring and the cup. Seems to be a common problem on all modern cars in my experiance - apparently because they aren't painted properly at the ends and so rust to death.

quite common on these for the plastic strut top cup bit to crack. i had one the other day were somebody had left the top nut loose!
I did put a spanner on the top nut but they both seemed tight and it looked ok from up top. Are the cracked cups you refer to only visible from underneath?Gassing Station | French Bred | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
