Bought the OH a 55 Picasso HDI a few months ago and it was always a bit rough when cold, but now the cold weather is kicking in it's getting worse.

When it starts it's very lumpy and what I assume to be quite a bit of unburnt diesel coming out the exhaust - I haven't had to top the oil up much. Once it's up to temperature it's fine, although perhaps not quite perfect, but then again it's got 125k on the clock.

The other symptom I've noticed is the economy isn't great for a HDI, the trip computer reporting high 30s, but the OH does love to hold it in gear rather than shift up and use the torque so I'm not sure how much is that and how much is a potential issue with the car.

I put a bottle of injector cleaner through and it seemed slightly improved for a brief time.

Google isn't turning up much specific to this model, but what I have found suggests:

- Glow plugs, apparently on modern engines they continue to provide heat for a while after initial startup?
- MAF
- Injectors, either physical or something in control system

The first 2 sound like cheap options to eliminate, is there anything else I should be checking?

Is that a 2.0 or a 1.6 on a 55 plate? 1.6 I'm guessing?

Glow plugs and air filter first, undo the king lead from all four and put power to the threaded ends one by one,if they spark the glow plug is still ok.High 39's isn't that far off if alot is urban,Mrs Mega only manages 45mpg with all her way to work on the A1.
