hey

looking at getting a clio 182 next year and just looking, lots of them have 70-80,000miles on the clock, will these cars feel much different to the lower mileage clios if they have been looked after or is it more of a mental thing about not really wanting a high mileage car, i have to admit id rather buy one of the 182s with roughly 30-50,000miles on the clock but does it really matter that much except for affecting the value of the car?

cheers

Would you rather a low mileage car that has been thrashed on track days or a higher mileage road going car?

Buy on condition, not on miles. Clios have a number of known issues, mostly minor so buy a good one & enjoy it smile (Make sure the cambelts been done!).

My 182 is about to tick over 70K and its still in great condition. Paid £2300 at 62K. I certainly wouldn't be put off by higher miles but the price would have to be right.

Don't forget about the cambelt either, its a £600 quid job if done properly so make sure you account for it in the budget!

cheers, ive seen a really nice 2005 182 cup with nearly 80,000 miles going for £4k, but it does have the proper recaro seats from the trophy.

Those seats fetch nearly a grand if they're in good nick.

Apparently (according to guides on ClioSport and talking to Ktec) the rear shocks go at about 50k miles. My Phase 2 172 ticked over that last month so whilst I was doing loads of other little jobs I changed mine. I probably didn't need to but I know they're good now and at 5k miles per year I know they'll be good for a long time! I'm not suggesting you change yours but it's something to look for both visually for leaks and in the handling on a test drive smile

Konis are an expensive but worthwhile upgrade, as are Eibach springs.

I just bought a whole Trophy with decent dampers and 80k on it for less than 4k!

Having viewed and had experience with a few clio 182s etc, take the advice and buy on condition and service history. Its also nice to have a lower number of owners as this points to a bit more sympathy, as ragging the t*ts off it will incure bigger bills in the long term. Although this isnt the be all and end all.

Enjoy your search!

Well I've owned 2 Clio 182's...

My first was only 3 years old at the time, and had 45k when I got it. Within just 6 months the lambda sensor failed, the car had starting issues, the entire exhaust system needing replacing and the manifold to CAT ring failed. This car had 2 previous owners.

I'm now on my second attempt of a 182! This one was bought on 109k and it's needed a new brake sensor (£12) and adjustment to the CC/SL switch (free) and that's it (had it a year now) and this car has 7 previous owners.

So I definitely wouldn't worry about owners or mileage!
