Hello Folks,
I can barely believe that I'm the only PH member to own a Renault Laguna Coupé. I've had the 205GT since new and I love it! I'm looking at the possibility of getting it remapped, but with there being 120 or fewer of the model in the UK, getting it done properly might be an expensive problem. For a petrol turbo car I'm dismayed at how black the exhaust residue is. On the R11 Turbo and the R5GTT that followed it, the colour was always a healthy grey/brown.

So, where does a guy with a rare Renault go? I'm in Suffolk, so I'm already in the back of the beyond smile

Regards,
Steve

Laguna coupes are amazing, the best looking new Renault and if i can say the best looking coupe by a long shot, someone i knew owned a V6 255 and it went as good as it looked, awesome car,he swapped it with a Megane R.S though.

ps:has yours got the 4wd steering?

R.S tuning Leeds is your best bet,i know they have done a couple of Lagunas but not have the info what models/engine they were, also look at K-Tec site,>Laguna 3>power upgrades, they must have something.

Thanks for the kind comments. I'm loving mine!

I'm slowly getting used to the colour, though it does hide the dirt quite well!

I've spoken to a guy at KTR; seems like it could be an involved process.
The usual penalty of driving a rare car. I'm used to it, my first R16 was a
limited run of just 90 vehicles fitted with all sorts of Continental derivatives...

Steve

Great cars. I have had 3 of them and covered over 30k in them. My favourite was a Glacier White 2.0T. Turned loads of heads!

Surely the engine is the same as used in other Renaults and particularly in other Lagunas? I can't believe Renault developed an engine specifically for the Coupe?

Stunning cars though, I've seen 1 on the road and had to look twice, first glance I thought it was a DB9 lol

Nice car! Only ever seen two on the road and remember oggling it in the showroom when they came out! As stated I would go to RS Tuning as I had my Megane F1 mapped there and cant fault it. Matt knows his stuff. The other place worth mentioning is TDF Power engineering, the guy does map renaults and used to campaign clio cup and now does touring/le man cars. Not sure on prices but worth a phone call.

It was used in the Espace and the Laguna Hatch and Sport Tourer

Great motor driven a few and the steering on them is sharp as a scalpel
Love the Monaco gp edition,
As already stated rs tuning are highly regarded in renaultsport circles,
May even get a superchips bluefin for it
But rs tuning would be the best option

I'd go see RS Tuning

I don't know for sure but I'd be amazed if the basic engine is any different to the one in the megane. It wouldn't make sense to make a different one. What's the engine code?

It might have a smaller tubby and smaller injectors etc but that's easy to work around..

Very nice! Not seen one in the flesh for ages.

Feeling your pain on the rarity, three of my Renaults combined have less cars remaining in total than there are of yours hehe

And the Vel Setee and Avantime, albeit in low pressure form, as per the Espace.

When I worked for Renault, one of our customers requested a remap of a Laguna Coupe GT205, and we referred him to Superchips in Buckingham. I have no idea if it actually came to fruition though.

Just a quick update.

My visit to KTR had mixed results, not ending with a remap, but with more exploratory tests needed on a later agenda. Met up with Andy, a very knowledgeable and helpful guy, who dealt with my old-timer questions with responses I could readily understand. Quite unlike the blank faces I've been met with hitherto.

Hi,
Any further update on this or is the Coupe still standard for now?

No, not made any more progress, other than putting the car
on a rolling road. It hit just over 210bhp with quite an
impressive straight line power delivery. TBH I'm not sure
quite what to do next, if anything.

Do you have any suggestions?

Hi Steve!
Any news from the past 3 years with the Laguna?
I bought a used one here in Sweden 2 months ago and really like it so far! But I was thinking maybe to look for a small upgrade in the engine like you were looking back then. Did you do anything to it eventually?

All the best!
Alexis

Hi Alexis,

I've not done anything. The reason being that the graphs that
were produced on the rolling road simply showed that there is
not a great deal you can teach Renault about turbo-driven petrol
engines. There is a reason that the exhausts are always black
and it has to do with keeping the engine from overheating on
over-run. It's not as if the 210 bhp is lacking either...

Enjoy your Laguna, it's a rare and exciting drive thumbup

Thanks a lot Steve for the fast reply!
Yes it is not lacking especially on everyday driving. It is indeed very rare and exciting the only problem is that my boss thinks it is very expensive hahaha. Maybe he thinks they are paying me too much money now :P

Thanks again,
Alexis
