Seems like the time has come to sell the wifes Peugeot 306HDi after 9 years of ownership.A 2000 (W) with 90k miles, a dealer has offered £500 if p/x with a 0% rate on a new car or £1000 if we buy the newer car cash.
Now the car has a choice of wheels, the original steel wheels with nearly new winter tyres OR a set of Cyclones with worn but legal tyres.
Which should I leave on the car if I p/x. I think the alloys should be easier to sell but the winter tyres are probably higher value a almost new.
Thought about keeping & selling private but p/x means we don't need to find as much cash.
Any comments about which wheels and about p/x or cash

The cyclones will sell very easily and quickly for a good price, the winter tyres probably less so. I'd be tempted to buy some crap wheels off ebay and sell both decent sets separately.

I'd trade it in - private sale is a nightmare on cheap cars with endless wikkid bruvs and gippos ringing you up and offering you 50p and for the sake of a few hundred quid it's not worth the hassle in my experiance.

I dunno, the GTi6 lads are really protective of their cars and I would argue the winter wheels would sell quickly. Cyclones are ten-a-penny and the value of them has dropped off considerably.

90k is considered 'low mileage' for these, is it a desireable spec? I would try to sell the car privately. The 3-door only HDi D-Turbo is now the most sought-after 306 and they attract the highest prices other than a GTi6/Rallye in good condition...

So there are the two opposite ends of the arguement that I have reached too...
Just to add to the ??1*//!8?? problem, wife was thinking of p/x ing it this weekend so buying more wheels wouldn't have been an option UNTIL it appears we have a brake problem. Sometimes lack of vacuum at the servo(?). Starts you get one, maybe 2 stabs at the brakes then its a rock hard pedal, until the servo refills. After that it seems fine. Wife won't p/x it knowing there's a brake fault....but she has seen a car she likes....
TBH I would be tempted to hang on to it as it's really tidy and I know everything that its had done (or not as its been reliable), its really economical too.
But with a garage and driveway rapidly filling up with cars that are too good to get rid of and the need for cash....

So how much will he knock off for no part exchange?
Vac pumps fail, the drive snaps.Very easy to change.

Well perhaps 'worth' is the wrong word, but it could easily fetch that amount in a private sale.

I paid that much for mine with just 86k on it but also with some modifications.

Unfortunately its a 5 door
Was effectively offered £500 for it
Either way there's £200 of wheels/tyres, either Cyclones/Toyos or Steels % new winter toyos
Full tank of fuel
5 months tax
and a new vac pump now
So keeping it for the minute or selling if I get a decent offer
Rather stick it away in case I need it rather than sell it for £500

You could try it privately? We sold our 5 door Moonstone Silver 306 HDi (see my profile) 2 years ago for £1350. I put it up for £1400 on PH and on an eBay classified ad and within 3 hours a chap rang from Cardiff and came straight away to pick it up. The car was very similar mileage and details to yours smile

Having said that, it was motoring for buttons so I kind of wish we'd kept it!

We decided to add it to the "driveway collection"
As you say it's cheap motoring, and as its got winter tyres etc......does 50mpg etc
Better option than the old Volvo
Or the Excel
Or the Mini Clubman (well maybe)
Or possibly the wifes new car
