Is £2k for a very clean 1990 5 door 309 Gti on 65k miles from a dealer near me a reasonable price? I am tempted, but it seems a lot for a potentially flimsy 21 year old car.

If I go for a look what should I be checking?

I know exactly the car you mean, £2k is not far off really assuming its got history and has been looked after. 5 dr means it is worth a bit less than an equivalent 3 door and possibly why its been for sale for so long!

That car in particular has been for sale for quite some time now, at least a couple of months so there may be a deal to be done. So long as its relatively rust free and the rear beam is in good order there are no real reasons not to go for it. I had a 5dr Goodwood and it was a hoot to drive, oh and they are not particularly that flimsy!

Thanks for the reply. 5dr is an advantage to me as I have a child. I had a 205 1.6 Gti some years ago and loved it. The mechanicals were bomb proof too.

If its the same 309 I have seen online it looks like someone has fitted after market spot lights in the bumper that are about half size to big and look all wrong and due to them being that big I would have thought they would have had to butcher the bumper to fit them.

Hahaha I can not believe this !

I have just been to pick up the car from S Armstrong car sales and what a heap if junk !
All the body work Is chipped away
All wheels need replacing
Back window is not even inline with the boot
Floor all ripped
Not as red as in the pictures .. In fact who ever took them pictures should win awards because I've never seen such a bad car ...
These idiots took my deposit as I was in Scotland and wanted to view the car then when I said how poor the car was in person they would not refund my £200 deposit !

I wouldn't mind this if the answers to my first phone call where answered correctly

I asked about the body work - mint they said
Engine - mint
Alloys - like new

Please stay away from this car pirate they don't have a clue about cars ... Honest peolpe will be ripped off

Beware

Pretty sure you have a right to have your deposit back if its not what you were let to believe.
You should have left it there tbh
