Evening all. Does anybody know what the mileage/frequency for the cambelt change is on the 1.6 petrol pug 206 engine. Head is off at the moment as a couple of the valves have burnt out and I was considering getting the belt replaced at the same time as it will be off to remove the head.

Just change it, the labour to do it later will be more than the cost of the b
elt kit.

This - no brainer.

Maybe also the water pump.

Thanks guys. Turns out the lack of compression was because there was a manifold leak. Thankfully garage spotted it before taking the head off. I wonder if they loosened the manifold when they fitted the new cat the day before and either did not re-seat it properly or forgot to do the bolt(s) up again.......

A manifold leak would not cause lack of compression??? are these guys pulling your wotsit??

If this is true then yes. What could cause low compression on 1 cylinder (no1) then if it's not a leaking exhaust manifold?

Sounds to me like you have just had an injector fault and the number one cylinder is very common, bet they have replaced the faulty injector and ta da?

It sounds to me that it was NOT a low compression on number one cylinder but a miss-fire? and yes I have changed quite a few injectors and it was always number one? I think the cause is water from the header tank dripping down on number one, happens on all 206`s.

Yep it did have a mis-fire like it had dropped a cylinder as I went and listened to it. It was OK above 3000rpm just at idle. Only went in for a new cat as the old one had collapsed. car was running purfect before the blocked cat and it was stopped as soon as the MIL light came on. I suspect it did not need a new coil pack either if the injector was faulty to begin with. Won't be going back to that garage again.

Sounds as if they have wasted a lot of YOUR money?? have a moan, you may get some back?? Poor diagnosis, not knowing what to do,replace items until the fault is cured? not the way to go about a job.
