Had the car since Jan but dont drive it much as its the Mrs car. The throttle on it is terrible and a smooth take off from stationary is nigh on impossible. It does it just as the last part of the clutch is let out. The revs will dip despite no input from the driver and then suddenly rise again.

Does it in 1st & 2nd mainly. I have read its a common complaint and that people get used to it and yes the car has been back to the dealer twice now to cure it but to no avail. Tried super unleaded but still does it. Car is bog stock.

So , the question is - Will a remap from one of the reputable companies sort it out or would I be wasting my cash ?

comments / advice or experience gratefully received

cheers

Does this happen only from when the car is cold?

My R.S 250 does it for a minute or so after starting and then it goes away.

Remapping is known to ease it a lot but its not 100% going to cure it.

Also some people say running their car on Vpower/momentum has helped it (some will say Vpower helped but momentum doesn't or vice versa, for some both work, for some none)
My 197 kangaroos like hell on normal unleaded but its a rarity when its run on momentum.
Saying that I've only had it when cold. Once the engines warm it doesn't do it.

Thanks for the reply. A remap is a chunk of money so need to be sure before doing it

Just echoing the same really, they shouldn't kangaroo at all when warm. When cold maybe a little but only when very cold and for a few minutes.

Likewise if it isn't already run a tank or two of vpower or momentum through it and see if that helps.

If not it might be worth speaking to your local dealer.

Done the dealer thing - twice. No help

I will try Vpower as normal super was used last time. I`m thinking an ecu reset also. Is there a special way to do it or just unplug the battery for half an hour ?

Run it on Vpower religeously and it rarely does it. Always let it idle for at least a couple of minutes before setting off and then learn to drive around it. wink

Mine does it occasionally. But not enough for me to really notice or to bother me. 99 Momentum has really smoothed things up since I started using it. I'm probably about 8 or 9 tanks in and it feels a lot better all over the rev range.

My 197 is terrible cold. Cold starts now I sit and wait for revs to drop to 1k idle before setting off. Seems worst at full choke.

When it's warm there's no issues apart from a flat spot around 1500-2000 revs that everyone complains about. A decent CUSTOM map will improve this greatly. Something I'm considering.

I ran mine on V-Power and got minimal kangarooing. Recently drove a 50,000 mile R27 (57 plate) and that was just perfect, didn't bounce once. Maybe they get better with miles!!

I bought an RSTuner from fastchip.nl for my R27. It is great, cold starts are much better, no kangarooing at all and the flat spot is greatly reduced. It costs £185ish delivered depending on exchange rate. There is noticeably more power around 2.5-4k rpm.

Just let it warm up for a minute before setting off. Job done.

I've never heard a bad word said about fastchip.nl, hence my reason for buying.

I fancy one of these. Is it just plug & play and install a generic map or what? I heard you send a snapshot of your ECU to the bloke and he sends you a custom one back. How easy is it all? I know it improves the drive-ability but would you say theres any power gains? Wonder if I could purchase it then sell it on..

Bought mine new and it has always had super unleaded. No running problems. Also, if you wife is driving it round town maybe it just needs driving ?

Yeah it's relatively straightforward.

Selling it on sounds good in practice, but the purchaser will need to buy a new license at 99Euro to unlock the unit possibly a new map at 49Euro. They aren't worth much second hand basically.

The maps are essentially what Renault would have put on if they didn't have to worry about all the EURO 5 emissions st.

There is noticeably more power lower down and Henk claims 5bhp at the top end.

Interesting. Not sure if I can spare that much for the RST just yet, but it is on the list. Would you recommend the centre silencer delete? Really tempted to get it done but just don't want to hate it instantly!

You won't hate it instantly. After about 3 weeks it pops and bangs all the time. You will rev to 4500rpm every gear just to hear the pop pop bang pop; it's very addictive! It does make the flat spot worse sometimes, but you can adjust your driving to accomodate it. The RSTuner dramatically reduced the flatspot, cold start issue and kangarooing but I've found it has reduced the volume of the pops and bangs which is annoying, but it has increased the drivability so much I'm willing to accept it.

I'd say the centre silencer delete is the best value mod you can do!
