Morning Gent's

I hope that some of you in the know will be able to assist with the following questions.
I am going to be helping a friend fit some ITB's to his PH2 172 clio. I am happy in the spanner department but not so hot on the wiring/ecu side of it so have some questions.

Firstly, I know it has been done before. Is it easy to use the std ECU and just get it remapped? What limtations am I going to come up against?
If going for an aftermarket ECU what are my options? Are these just going to be plug and play followed by some rolling road time?
I do know that I will have to get a PH1 throttle pedal and cable as the PH2 is DBW.
Anything else I am missing?

Thanks in advance.

As far as I'm aware it's practically impossible to run ITB's on the standard ECU.

A lot of people go for the Omex unit but from what I've read it's terrible.

Is your friend not on cliosport.net? You'll have to pay for membership but it's been done thousands of times on there.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Thanks for the reply.
I have read the same about the Omex kit. Will be staying clear of that.

Aftermarket is the way to go, look at the K-tec gen 90 here as its plug and play with no dash lights.

The main reason you need aftermarket engine management is because the standard ecu uses a MAP sensor as one of it's primary load sensors to figure out what the engine is doing & what it needs, you can't use a MAP sensor with itb's. It's been done before but it was very messy, a lot of hassle & didn't work very well at all.

As has been said already, have a look on cliosport, there's a shedload of useful info on there for fitting itb's to an F4R as it's quite a common conversion nowadays.

I know that the GEN90 ecu is very expensive but from what I've heard, how easy, simple & neat it is to install it more than makes up for the cost.

What are the issues with omex? I know a few people using it with itb's, in mk1 clios mind, with no issues whatsoever confused

The issue as far as I'm aware is the room to improve on them but it's not something I've really looked into. I'll have a browse over on there in a moment and see if I can find any useful info for the OP.

I fitted ITB's to my 205 earlier this year.
I was already running it on a 3rd party ECU (Emerald)so took the hit of that earlier. That engine spec was already mapped and that proved to be useful later.
It will not run on the standard ECU, you can dispense with the MAP sensor on the inlet side of things as it won't need it.
Omex / Emerald / DTA ECU are all recommended - choose an ECU that your mapper knows about!

You'll need:

Loom
ITB's
Airfilter
Fuel pressure reg.
TPS
Inlet manifold.
Catch tank.

It was mapped again at Dave Walker's (194bhp/ 151Lb/ft torque) and fortunately the previous map was ok as a base map for me to drive it there rather than on a trailer.
Have fun, the noise (and obviously power) make it worth while!
