I need a poll really, but I can't.

I cannot decided between this XM, and another Xantia Activa

The XM, and its Gaelic waftyness.

Its a 2ltr Turbo, with an auto box. It has leather, wood and done 80k miles. An XM is an itch I wish to scratch. It is £1350, and the MOT is due November.

The Xantia Activa

This has the same engine as the XM, but a manual. It too has done 80k, been well looked after. I have owned an Activa in the past. It is up for £895

The XM will be nice and wafty, but will go everywhere shrugging its shoulders. The Activa will do much the same, but can be fun and involving when the mood takes me.

.......Or would you rather eat frogs legs and snails, and walk everywhere drunk on cheap vino?

We had an XM. A 2.0 auto, it didn't go too badly and oddly, or surprisingly was very good on fuel. Very wafty though.

It never went wrong, although I always had a fear that it would. I also considered it dangerous at times. When you start it up from cold it pressurise the suspension, however at times it would disable the brakes while doing this. Not sure how it was linked, assume some sort of vaccum thing.

However our drive was a slope, start up, select gear, reverse down a way. Apply brakes and the car would roll out into the road. You never knew when it would do this though as it didn't do it every time.

I probably was a bit harsh on it at the time and maybe a bit snobbish too. I can look back on it with fond memories though.

Never been in an Activa, the active suspension does interest me greatly though. I'd have though making sure it is all working would be prime, as I suspect rather costly to overhaul if not.

Have heard Activa suspension is excellent. No experience myself.
Family ran an XM 3.0 which was reliable against all stereotypical odds.I suspect any that are still around now, and in regular use, will be reliable.
I'd be tempted by XM for the waft factor. The Xantia drives okay but a little bit plain inside.
No 605 or 607 on the radar?

XM, for the reasons I just told you on the phone! Love Activas - I'd like it myself, but you've never had an XM and for what you're doing and your plans I think it's the better bet. Not at £1350 though.....£1100 absolute max.

Another XM vote here, mine was excellent and not as wafty as the CX 2.4gti which was fast but wallowed like a ship on the ocean.

XM without a doubt.

My mechanic had one stood on his drive for over 5 years. When he decided to start it again, he just replaced the battery and it started first time.

Great looking car and so much more interesting than a Xantia.

To echo the above have a look at 607's. The 605 was supposed to be a bit of a nightmare but I have direct experiance of a 607 that is lovley and wafty to drive, reliable and an absolute bargain.

Wow, the 607 is cheap, but doesn't seem quite as quirky as the XM. I like quirky.

I can't believe how few XM's are for sale. Thought there be some choice, but it appears none on PH and one on ebay and no on the road CX's at all. Quite staggering really.
